Our dear kababayan,
Jacksonville’s 16th World of Nations Celebration at the Metropolitan Park left an indelible mark on me when I observed Greater Jacksonville’s Filipino-American community in action, working together in harmony, promoting our culture and history to hundreds of visitors to the Philippine Pavilion. It was such a great experience for an expatriate like me, meeting and talking with the various leaders of participating Fil-Am organizations. The “bayanihan” spirit is alive and well here in Jacksonville, which brings to mind the purpose of this letter.
The Philippines is currently undergoing a social transformation of great magnitude, changing the lives of thousands of Filipinos, the poorest of the poor specially, and eventually the country as a whole. Surprisingly, our national and local government or foreign aids did not create this phenomenon. Gawad Kalinga, an army of dedicated volunteers and social activists in the Philippines and overseas, working in tandem with ANCOPUSA, are the major catalyst for this change. Gawad Kalinga has an active branch in Jacksonville, Florida and its members would like to share these exhilarating changes with the Filipino-American community.
The members of GK Jacksonville wishes to invite your family, friends, and organization, to an informative session, sort of a Town-Hall Meeting, and a short audio-visual presentation of these refreshing changes that are transforming our country. Please take note of the following information and reserve a spot for it in your calendar:
